I’m a little stoked right now. The guy who guided Jonesboro High School to back-to-back 6A state championships and last season started for an SEC team that went to the Elite 8 has just joined Arkansas State basketball. A three-star commit coming out of high school, Desi Sills joins another former Jonesboro High star, Marquis Eaton, on a Red Wolves squad that suddenly looks a little dangerous.
Sills, who was originally set to transfer to Auburn from NW Arkansas, brings a Yeti cooler of experience to a roster that is undoubtedly talented but had trouble finishing out games last season. The combination of Sills on the outside and Sun Belt Freshman of the Year Norchad Omier at the post should allow room for guys like Caleb Fields and Keyon Wesley to hone their games. It’s quite possible that Arkansas State has a basketball team bearing real skills.,
Is A-State still missing significant size? Sure. Maybe Antwon Jackson grows an inch two over the summer. All that matters is that the Red Wolves just upped the wattage on the star power. Bring on basketball season, a phrase I thought I’d never utter.
