Call it The Caleb Fields’ Broken Ass Wrist Game, comparable to Michael Jordan’s Flue Game and superior to the 12 Labors of Hercules. The only element missing was the W. With his hand barely dangling from his arm on a broken wrist, Fields put up 13 points and four assists in a donnybrook of a loss to the Troy Trojans 63-59. The loss knocks Arkansas State out of the Sun Belt tournament and ends the season with a final record of 13-20.
At one point in the second half, the Red Wolves led the fifth seed Troy by 12 points, with rightful SBC Freshman of the Year Terrence Ford Jr. continuing to scorch opponents. Ford finished 13 points as well. Markise Davis, who at times seemed to carry the team on his back by himself, led all scorers with 21, a perfect three for three downtown.

The Red Wolves seemed in command for the upset at the 8:55 mark, when Fields fed Davis for a three that pumped the led to 51-39. However, Nelson Phillips of Troy seemed to seize the fire that had fueled Arkansas State’s domination, bullying in the paint with 14 boards to put the ice on Red Wolves shooting.

The loss marks as season mostly comprised of disappointment, though the Red Wolves finished playing well, establishing Ford and fellow freshman Izaiyah Nelson as the foundation for next year’s squad.
Troy moves on to face fourth seed James Madison.
