Hooping In Jonesboro: Arkansas State Picks Up a Pair of Blowout Wins

Red Wolves Women Muscle Up and Bully Up on ULM, 71-43

The Warhawks were overpowered, barely a speed-bump between Destinee Rogers and Arkansas State’s sixth consecutive victory. The Red Wolves, slightly taller, a bit bigger, nudged ULM out of the paint, smothered them on defense, and bullied their way to desirable slot selection. With the Red Wolves playing in Jonesboro, the six-foot Wynter Rogers seemed most at home, collecting a team high 6 points and three rebounds in the first quarter. By halftime, ULM had scored two more points (12) than Rogers Rogers (10).

The 32-12 halftime lead wasn’t just a product of Rogers’ bludgeoning. Scoring was distributed across 10 Red Wolves, punctuated by red shirt junior Bella Weary’s 16 points. While the bucket production was appreciated, it was the defense was doing the good work, holding the Warhawks to just 20% shooting and enduring the wrath of Nissa Sam-Grant and her six blocked shots.

With just under five minutes left in the game, Arkansas State had a 62-34 lead and had for intents and purposes cemented its six consecutive victory. Final score: 71-43. Wynter Rogers led all scorers with 17 points.

Arkansas State Delivers The Elbow From The Top Turnbuckle to Georgia State 85-59

The Red Wolves rode a 29-0 run in the first half to annihilate the Panthers .

For all intents and purposes, the game was over halfway through the first half, when a 10-minute scoring drought sapped Georgia State’s will to basketball. Terrance Ford led all scorers with 8 points with Taryn Todd and Kobe Julien pitched in seven apiece. Georgia State, who ended the half on a high note with an 8-0 run, found themselves down 25 at the half thanks to 24% shooting and losing the rebound battle 31-21.

The remainder of the game only brought more woe and misery to Georgia State. Midway through the second half, Cody Head and Kamryn Johnson logged significant minutes, successfully keeping the score comfortably above the -16.5 betting margin for those who had interest. Joe Pinion hit four out of seven three pointers to finish with a team high 14 points, and Zay Nelson scooped 12 boards.

“Great effort, top to bottom,” said Coach Hodgson. “29 unanswered points in the first half. A lot of our offense was the result of our defense.”

Noting that Pinion had a slam dunk in the game, Nelson was asked when fans would see a three pointer from the 6’10” big man. “Real soon threes will coming!” promised Zay.
