At the start of the college basketball season, I groaned to my podcast co-hosts (Shane Mettlen and Dusty Thibodeaux) that the Sun Belt was bereft of hardwood star power. Who were the big names of the conference? Was anybody “must see?” Mettlen patiently explained that Appalachian State’s win over Auburn and James Madison victory at Michigan State provided the SBC with a nice early spotlight last season, which is how we came to know names like TJ Bickerstaff and Justin Abson. Aside from Arkansas State’s upset over Memphis, the Sun Belt has been severely lacking in statement wins this season, leaving many of the conference’s stars playing in the sad shadows of anonymity.
However, after watching an unusual amount of Sun Belt basketball this season, I’ve discoverd that though this isn’t a red letter season for Sun Belt basketball, the conference isn’t without considerable talent. Now midway through the in-confernece season, I offer the Howlraiser Sun Belt Mid-Season All Hoops Teams.
All Howlraiser Mid-Season First Team
CJ Huntley, Appalachian State
Kobe Julian, Arkansas State
Joseph Pinion, Arkansas State
Tylan Pope, Texas State
Denijay Harris, Southern Miss
All Howlrasier Mid-Season Second Team
Barry Dunning Jr., South Alabama
Sean Duragordon, Old Dominion
Elijah Hutchinson-Everett, James Madison
Taryn Todd, Arkansas State
Cesare Edwards, Georgia State
How did I come up with these teams? Watching games and appreciating the skillz, yo. Guys like Zay Nelson, Mark Freeman, Robert Tate and Myles Tate could easily replace anybody on these teams. If you have a problem with these selections, make your own list.
