The Red Wolves are, after a mere two weeks, the nation’s leading pass offense, racking up 920 yard via the air while bombing the end zone 9 times. A-State’s Corey Rucker is second in the nation with 4 TD grabs, and he’s richly accompanied by exceptional talent in Jeff Foreman, Te’Vailance Hunt and about half-a-dozen other guys who can step in and make big plays.

How good is Las Vegas? The line on Memphis vs. Arkansas State was +5.5 Red Wolves. A furious second half comeback by the Red Wolves and QB James Blackman didn’t deliver a Sun Belt win over the American, but it did result in a final score of 55-50. What performance enhancing dope is Vegas munching and where can I get some?

On September 11, the Tigers darken The Cent in Butchboro. The win over UCA was jolly good fun, sure. But the stakes are higher on Saturday, somehow. We don’t share a conference. We have few common opponents. Though we claim the same recruiting grounds, the beef between the two programs is more personal than professional – especially with Memphis recently enjoying the national success Arkansas State has always wantonly craved.

Florida transfer James Blackman started for Arkansas State against Central Arkansas on Saturday night. Blackman wasn’t playing poorly, exactly, but early in the third quarter, the score was only 13-7 Red Wolves midway through the third quarter. After Blackman was forced to retire to the sideline after briefly losing his helmet, Hatcher took over the offensive and immediately flicked a 34 yard TD pass to Corey Rucker – who would go on to record two more Hatcher to Rucker scores. In a quarter and a half of work, Hatcher threw 4 touchdown and went a perfect 12/12 for a fantastic 315 QB rating. It’s hard to imagine Hatcher not starting next week against Memphis.

ook past the Bears is a mistake new A-State head football coach Butch Jones can’t afford to make – just ask Blake Anderson, the former Red Wolves coach who saw his 2016 team upset by the Bears 28-23. It was a loss that shook Jonesboro to its very core! Even though Anderson repaid the Bears last season with a 50-27 thumping, Red Wolves fans are still cringing from 2016.
