The First Being “Why Isn’t It Called the Remember the Bahalamo Bowl?”
If you’ve never heard of the XBox Bowl, it’s because it’s a brand new thing. Previously, it was the Bahamas Bowl, which is now defunct and moving to Frisco, Texas, hosted at the Ford Center at the Star, “a 12,000-seat stadium…Its main use is as the Dallas Cowboys’ practice facility.” Holding a bowl game in an indoor practice facility is a novel idea, and I gotta admit, my interest is piqued.
The XBox Bowl will be held on Thursday, December 18th at 8PM CST and will be broadcast on ESPN 2. Outside of that, details are a little murky. Is the XBox Bowl supported by the massive resources commanded by Microsoft? Will we see a level of pomp-and-circumstance never before seen in a Red Wolves Bowl Game? Last year’s 68 Venture’s Bowl recorded an official attendance of 19,582. Will we have enough seats? Is there an XBox Bowl website? (I can’t find one) An XBox Social account?

This game could be a fun fan experience, and it’s a less-than-seven hour drive between Jonesboro and Frisco. Some of you will be delighted to see a game against Missouri State, which has some regional beef. Sadly, there is no Wintzell’s Oyster House in Texas, so fans will have to locate another bar and restaurant to invade.
UPDATES TO THIS BIG STORY
The XBox bowl does indeed have a website: www.XboxBowl.com. [NOTE: as of this writing, this link appears to remain inactive]
“We’re proud to welcome Xbox as the title sponsor of this bowl game as their brand aligns perfectly with the excitement and energy of college football and especially the Bowl Season,” said Sean Johnson, Executive Director of the Xbox Bowl. “Plus, we couldn’t be more excited to have the opportunity to host two great football teams to experience the Xbox Bowl.”
Here’s another quote:
“The Xbox Bowl is where the thrill of game day meets the joy of play,” said Chris Lee, Vice President of Xbox Marketing. “Teaming up with ESPN Events lets us bring fans even closer to the fun, whether they are in the stands in Frisco, watching the bowl game at home, or playing with friends around the world. Together we are celebrating the passion for play, on the field and in the ways people love to game, and reimagining what game day can be for lifelong players and for those experiencing the thrill for the first time.”
