It was senior night, which meant there were going to be some senior moments. And sure enough, both Jaxon Elllingsworth and Jalen Hampton would open the first half with threes. It was a game worthy of a big crowd, and one for the football team bringing the XBox trophy for display. After all, it was clear from the start that Louisiana was not wanting of the smoke.
After one half of play, the Red Wolves led 37-22, with the Cajuns shooting a “I Just Want the Season to End” 25% from the field. The Red Wolves weren’t exactly lighting it up, but six three pointers – including three from Matt Heyman – provided plenty of point differential for the Red Wolves.
Chandler Jackson, another senior, opened the second half with a lay up, and the route was on. With a bit less than nine minutes on the clock, a set of Joey Chammaa freebies pushed the score to 61-38. The Cajuns continued shooting with ice hands, shooting poorly from the field and the charity stripe.
It wasn’t perfect. With 5:37 left on the clock, the Cajuns went on a 14-3 run, chipping the lead down to 64-52. However, a Matt Hayman layup and a Aly Tounkara slam deflated all hopes for the Cajuns.
Caldwell finished the evening 5/9 from three point range, leading all scorers with 19. Tounkara, Hampton and, yes, CHAMMAA each pitched in 10 rebounds.
