It’s not a big deal, but it’s a start.
Saturday was a good day for Arkansas State. Men’s basketball, having performed well in a loss to Troy on Thursday, pulled it all together over the weekend to defeat once mighty Georgia State 75-70. The Women continued to surprise, powering over Louisiana and winning four of its last six. Just a handful of steps away at Tomlinson Stadium, Red Wolves baseball put down UAPB for the second time – and would complete the season sweep the very next day.
So not bad.
In beating Georgia State, the Red Wolves climbed out of the Sun Belt basement with a better than bad possibility of evicting themselves from the cellar for the rest of the season (a road swing through Louisiana will serve as judge, jury and executioner of that dream). The Women are in even better shape, currently fourth to last in the Sun Belt and will fo-sho finish not worse than next to last.
We’re three games into the baseball season and the Red Wolves are a clean 3-0, albeit with all victories coming at the expense UAPB, who isn’t expected to do very well in 2023. Still, a sweep to open the season is a good start. (Whether you’re nervous about A-State’s relief pitching giving up 5 runs in the ninth in game three is totally up to you.)
One day does not make a season, but it feels good to win, even if it’s just for a few hours.
