Jaylen Bonelli Gets 150 Yards and a Score to Lead Arkansas State Over Georgia State 38-32.

The game began with the Red Wolves not only putting up a three and out on the Panthers, but also collected a sack from Shakhai Woods. Arkansas Statre siezed the momentum with a Trey Owens to Jaylen Bonelli TD.

From there, the Red Wolves and Georgia State traded defensive stops and missed field goals until Cameran Brown finally connected with DJ Riles for a game tying touchdown midway through the second quarter. With a half minute left in the half, Georgia State back up QB Ayden Pereira, who filled in for an injured Cameran Brown, connected with Qwantavius Wiggins to re-tie the game. Pereira’s final stat line: 163 yards, two touchdowns and a pair of picks.

The Red Wolves opened the half with a promising drive until a touchdown run was negated by a holding call, resulting in a second miss from Clune Van Andel. A pick from Brandon Greil followed immediately by a Owens to Nana Burriss TD bomb game the Red Wolves a seven point pieces.

Georgia State responded to the insult by retaliating with a 77-yard sideline touchdown run from Wiggins. Undeterred, the Red Wolves would retake the lead on a Owen’s punch in.

The fourth quarter opened with Arkansas State leading 28-21 with the Red Wolves on the Georgia State two. James Lee pounded the ball in for a two TD lead. Clune Van Andel would shake off the misses to make it a three-score game with 11 minutes left in the fourth.

Then the Red Wolves decided to increase the degree of difficulty. Withe Georgia State moving, corner back Dontre Henderson got hit with the un-sportsman, then got burned in the end zone for the touchdown. Georgia State went for two and narrowed the score to 38-29. After a quick Red Wolves three and out and a poor punt, the Panthers put themselves in field goal position and drew the score to 28-32.

A Red Wolves drive stalled just past midfield, leading to a punt to the Georgia State 11 with 1:49 left to play, The Red Wolves Makai Shahid picked off the QB on fourth down, but was hit with a questionable roughing the passer that gave the Panthers new life with :21 on the clock. It didn’t matter. Shahid picked off the next pass on the Red Wolves 6 tow in game.

The Red Wolves recorded two 100 yard receivers, with Bonelli collecting 150 yards and Burris racking up 114, with both scoring touchdowns. Trey Owens threw for 309 yards and totaled four touchdowns.
