Let’s think twice before we dismantle the Sun Belt, okay?

Why is Oklahoma and Texas somehow determining the fate of the Sun Belt? The exit of the Big XII’s most monied programs is creating the perfect shit storm in college athletics, creating radical hypotheticals like this and this. The moorings of reality have loosened, setting free an entropy from which will may never fully recover.

Here’s another take to add to the madness: Why if the Sun Belt stood pat?

The Sun Belt has emerged from 2020’s ooze like a Greek god from an enormous seashell. We have a CVS receipt of reasons to love the Sun Belt. Why screw up a good thing? Unless we’re talking about adding members (which would be ideal), there’s honestly little reason to leave a conference that with a ceiling g so high.

Listen, you don’t have to take my word for it. Watch Sun Belt Commissioner Keith Gill lay it out for us:

I understand the “big picture.” I can read Tarot cards like anyone else. Arkansas State Athletic Director Vice Chancellor for Intercollegiate Athletics Tom Bowen has a rolodex of AAC connections as a former University of Memphis acolyte. Additionally, former A-State Athletic Director Vice Chancellor for Intercollegiate Athletics Terry Mohajir currently calls the shot for UCF. This gives us an insider’s “in” once the Big XII adds Houston and SMU.

But is that the wise move?
